They’re Nuts

Jeff and a few of the team members got to their destination last night having ridden only 95 miles. Looking at the odometers, they thought what a waste to leave it that close to 100, so they continued past their destination so they could get in the second 100-mile day in a row. They are just nuts! I would have been on the ground crawling to the church begging for water and healing for my legs to work right again. These guys amaze me.

At least the biking was mostly flat. But Jeff says that translates into mostly boring. Field after field of soybeans, cotton, rice, alfalfa. The hills were hard, but they were beautiful.

Even though it was easier than yesterday, two 100-mile days made for some very wiped out bikers. Jeff sounded tired, but joyful. They actually passed Memphis and stopped in Olive Branch, Mississippi. Isn’t that a cool town name? Extend the olive branch of hope. I like it. Anyway, they took part in the youth service at the church, had dinner, then made for their sleeping bags. Jeff said the best night was in Newport where they got to sleep on the aerobics room floor. It was padded.

Today (Thur.) is one week since they left Minnesota. They have a slow day, only 65 miles or so. They start every day with a devotion lead by one of the team members. Jeff got the early morning slot yesterday. Overall, they agree that this first week has been amazing. The people of Joplin inspired them and the people of the towns since have abundantly blessed them. They want to raise awareness and encourage people to give to Convoy of Hope to help people who are already working hard to help themselves. That’s what it is all about.
